Together with all the participants, we started mapping on Ladies Walk. Just to try it out all the possibilities. Where do you live? Or where did you travel from? By drawing in the sand we try to start a conversation with passersby. I pass the stick on to you, can you draw where you’re house is?
This “mapping with a stick” is a really old form of map making and guiding the other. It also became an important the PGIS practice. PGIS (Participatory Geographical Information Systems) is the company who created a method to guide communities in getting an overview of there own surroundings, but also to engage them finding solutions or new possibilities for used and unused spaces.
“PGIS practice is geared towards community empowerment through measured, demand-driven, user-friendly and integrated applications of geo-spatial technologies.” WEBSITE PGIS
