a couple of written stories based on the walk we did through Newton, read by the writers!!
Today we had a wonderful walk to Anna’s favorite place. This weekend we are doing a introduction on the project that will take place in October/November when the AONB landscape Forest of Bowland celebrates it’s 50th anniversary.
This weekend we are looking around, observing the landscape in all it’s beauty and not so beautiful features. By writing down all these findings we will merge them into stories tomorrow!
And… Eventually all the stories and observations, we collect during this year, need a place so we need to think about a spot and a form this object should look like. Tomorrow we will sketch and overthink! We will give an update!
2014 marks 50 years since the designation of the Forest of Bowland as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. To celebrate, Dutch location theatre company PeerGrouP will return to the area to work with people of all ages from the Bowland area to build a monument/time capsule for the future.
WEEKEND OF Sat 26th and Sunday 27th APRIL from 10.30 am – 4pm
Come to our free community workshops at Newton in Bowland Village Hall to help make a start

From April to October, PeerGrouP, different artists and residents will work towards a monument/time capsule that will guard desires, wishes and ideas for the future of the AONB landscape of Bowland. The object will be based on the traditional Lancashire dry stone wall and will be built together with participants from the local AONB.
The programme and meetings through the year will involve different artforms and means of expressing these desires, wishes and ideas. On 1st November 2014 the Forest of Bowland AONB will organize a final event of the celebratory year. During this day the monument/time capsule will be closed by a theatrical/ceremonial event.
A monument/time capsule is a well known practice in a lot of cultures all over the world. The ceremony of burying stories in the ground to dig up later is something most people are familiar with. PeerGroup will make a monument/time capsule celebrating the existence and future of Lancashire’s Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
This monument/time capsule will contain stories (Recipes, recorded music, written music, recorded and written stories, drawings, photographs, usb stick with film etc.) reflecting on a future image of the area.
This project is about understanding the past, but also knowing that the landscape and people are in an ever-changing process. Focussing on subjects like natural environment, local and global issues, depopulation, youngsters leaving, aging, energy issues, (un)employment in rural areas and the effect it has on the landscape.
The monument/time capsule is a place to evaluate future plans. By focussing on the idea of ‘sense of place’ we build up awareness in the participating communities to create local bounded possibility’s in the areas.
On 1st November 2014 the AONB will organize a final event of the celebratory year. During this day we will also lock the monument/time capsule during a theatrical event. This event will show parts of the content that will be locked inside the monument.

Story of Hannegijs Jonker who travelled with us (Sjoerd & Marin) to Bowland to meet everyone again after 6 months!
funny how a story sometimes
(if it’s still a story)
just can’t fit into the world
like shapeless puzzle pieces
floating, creaping in your head
causing the chaos
in the back of your mind
and how they
after a nice slice of forest
a walk past homemade cakes
and sleeping on the left side
(or on the couch)
sheep, olives, postcards
into a shape
that fits exactly into the pavement of your thoughts
and can join in the logic
this is where I am
